Will Phillips joins Macmillan Racing for the 2017 British GT Championship
Macmillan Racing has signed up-and-coming young star Will Phillips to drive its GT4 Aston Martin Vantage, in the 2017 British GT Championship.
“I’m delighted to have Will on board,” said Team Principal David Macmillan. “He had a good debut season in GT4 in 2016 and – like us – he’s ready to challenge for race wins and is targeting a championship charge.”
“I’m really excited to be joining Macmillan Racing,” said Will. “I’ve enjoyed testing the Aston Martin and I immediately felt at home with the team. I’m convinced that we’re going to be a very good fit.”
Will was quickly up to speed with the Macmillan Racing Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT4, and the 22-year-old from Buckinghamshire is looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“With GT4 grids at near-capacity,” he reckons, “the 2017 British GT Championship is going to be mega! It’s guaranteed to be really competitive and with new names and faces arriving, it’s sure to be an interesting year.
“I feel very comfortable in the Aston Martin. It’s a great all-round car and is very well-engineered. I believe I have what it takes, within my own capabilities – and with the team’s efforts – to achieve some great results next season. Macmillan Racing had a really strong debut season in 2016 and, together, I think we can really go places.
“This year I managed to post a couple of podium finishes, as did the Macmillan boys. We’re all targeting race wins in 2017 and - who knows - if we hit our stride strongly enough, a run at the title!
“I am hugely impressed that the team is also taking on the challenge of racing in GT3 at the same time. I like the fact that they’re looking to establish a GT racing ‘ladder’ because that means that if we are successful together, we can progress as a unit.”
The team will continue its off-season testing programme, bringing both their GT4 and GT3 cars fully on song, while driver line-ups are finalized.
The opening round of the 2017 British GT Championship takes place at Oulton Park on April 15 & 17.
